FLORIDA EVICTIONS AND THE COURTS: Update for June 2, 2020

Late yesterday, Florida Governor Desantis entered another executive order that extends the hold on residential evictions for nonpayment of rent until 12:01 am July 1, 2020. No doubt that this places additional pressures and concerns on Landlord and Property Managers that need rent money to operate and exist. The idea was that the bargaining power would equalize some once tenants see that Landlord and Property Managers could proceed with enforcing eviction notices for rents not paid. Landlords and Property Managers should continue to try to work out arrangements with their tenants to try to collect rents, even if in part. Once this Governor’s stay is lifted, eventually, tenants not paying their rent during this time will owe such substantial sums that it will likely be impossible to catch-up continue. Eviction Law Firm will put out some sample forms on lease addendum to extend leases so that tenants can possibly pay over a longer period of time for the past due rent and extend the lease term.
